BROADMEADOW trainer Paul Perry has a strong hand in the eight-event card at his home track this afternoon.

Perry has six runners at the meeting and the majority have strong claims.

The best looks to be King Artaius in the Nelson Bay Radiator and Automotive Services/Granny Mays Garden City Plate (1600m).

He turned in a good effort when Lord Of Mont Vue beat him into second place by only a neck at Broadmeadow last Saturday.

`He probably should have won last start and he will take some beating,' Perry said.

Former New Zealand jockey Chris O'Brien, who is now based on the Central Coast, will ride King Artaius.

Volksbay will be having his first start since November when he steps out in the Bayview Wardrobes and Shower Screens Plate (1200m).

He was racing consistently before his let-up.

Last start, he finished third to Kala Spirit by only 1 lengths over 1400m at Broadmeadow on November 7.

Tanya Randell, who will ride Volksbay, will also be aboard the Perry-trained Pele in the Lions Club of Soldiers Point/Nelson Bay Apex Handicap (1300m).

Pele turned in an improved effort when third behind Saltash Castle at Broadmeadow last Saturday.

`He is a frustrating horse to train,' Perry said.

`He has ability but he doesn't often put in, but if decides to do his best, then he will take beating.'

Paul Falvey will ride the other Perry runners, Liberate, Al Sharif and Nepean Lass.

Nepean Lass, which will contest the Soldiers Point Upholstery/Salamander Warehouse Liquorwise Handicap (1400m), was ridden by Falvey when she scored a last-stride win at Broadmeadow last Saturday and she has done well since.

`She is racing much more honestly this time in and it is our intention to take her through her classes,' stable foreman Keyren Forbes said after the mare scored last Saturday.

Perry believes the bigger Broadmeadow track will suit Liberate better than the Gosford course when she contests the Soldiers Point Bowling Club Plate (1400m).

`She has been getting back in her races on the tighter track at Gosford and the long run in here will suit her much better,' Perry said.

Al Sharif will start one of the outsiders in the Port Stephens Garage Doors/Coolair Auto Electrics Handicap (1400m).
